Miles of shimmering white coral-sand beaches which are lapped by translucent aquamarine waters and fringed by swaying tropical palms, with coral reefs and lagoons that teem with tropical fish, all set against a dramatic and lush landscape - this is the Mauritius of the picture postcard. But there is much, much more - an interior blessed with soaring mountainous peaks from which waterfalls tumble, and mile after mile of emerald coloured sugar cane, together making this an exciting island to explore.
Mauritius is also a fascinating melting pot of cultures, reflected across the varied cuisines on offer, as well as in the varied architecture where colourful Hindu and Tamil temples jostle side-by-side with European stone churches and colonial plantation houses, and of course in everyday life.
